Multi-generational living
Multi-generational living is intended for situations where you temporarily need additional living space on your property. For example, if you want to live closer to your children or if your children are temporarily returning to the family home. Multi-generational living is also possible for a family member who temporarily needs extra help.
Requirements
- This concerns a temporary extension of living space.
- The additional living space always remains part of the main residence and may not constitute an independent dwelling.
- The facility must fit within the possibilities of the plot and comply with the architectural and spatial requirements that apply in the area.
- If your circumstances change and the extra living space is no longer needed, you must restore the situation to its original state. The municipality may check whether the use still fits the situation for which the permit was granted.
Environmental permit applications
You need an environmental permit for multi-generational housing. The municipality will assess your plan based on policy rules and the environmental plan. We are happy to help you with this. Please request a consultation prior to submitting your permit application. During this consultation, we will look at the possibilities for your plot together.
