Circular Ekkersrijt

Circular Ekkersrijt: towards a future-proof business park

Ekkersrijt Business Park, together with entrepreneurs, knowledge institutions and governments, is taking steps towards a fully circular future. Within this joint process, building a circular ecosystem is central, in which reuse, collaboration and innovation are leading. The ultimate goal is clear: a fully circular business park in 2050.

A lot of work has already been done in an earlier circularity project. Through discussions with stakeholders, circular scans and meetings, companies at Ekkersrijt have been stimulated to get started with circularity. Meanwhile, several circular initiatives have been set in motion and work is underway to build a solid foundation for the next steps in the transition to full circularity.

Focus areas of Circular Ekkersrijt

Within the ongoing process, three related themes are being addressed:

  1. awareness
  2. collaboration
  3. innovation.

1. Circular awareness

Company visits

At Ekkersrijt business park, company visits are organized to promote cooperation and knowledge exchange. Entrepreneurs hereby get the opportunity to get to know each other's processes and circular solutions.

Circular Maturity Measurement (CVM).

At companies at Ekkersrijt the Circular Maturity Measurement is carried out. This measurement provides insight into the level of circularity within the business and helps to identify concrete opportunities for improvement. The results are stored on a digital platform and analyzed, which forms the basis for follow-up actions.

Education and research

Students from Wageningen University & Fontys Universities of Applied Sciences are deployed to assist with circular issues at play on the business park. In the second quarter delivery by WUR took place, in September Fontys will start implementing a milestone work plan.

Continued development of Circular Dashboard

InduSym Foundation's Circular Dashboard has been updated with new functionalities and visualizations. In addition, data from the Circular Maturity Measurement and residual streams/resources needs are linked, leading to improved insights into progress and opportunities at Ekkersrijt business park.

2. Cooperation and collection

Structural collective collection

Together with local partners, an established collection structure is being developed. During the collection rounds, residual streams are collected and ways to organize collection more efficiently and effectively are examined.

Collection calendar 2025

Five collective collection rounds will be organized in 2025. During these rounds, various waste streams will be collected. In this way, valuable raw materials are preserved and carbon emissions are reduced. The collection rounds are scheduled on the following dates: May 14, June 25, September 17, October 29 and December 10. Would you like more information? Send a message to Mattijs Bouwman

3. Circular innovation

Circular innovation working group

A working group of high-tech and plastics companies is addressing concrete circular challenges, such as wasted material streams. The group meets to share knowledge and work together on solutions.

Taking advantage of collective opportunities

Companies with similar waste streams are connected to exchange experiences and work on joint solutions. Consider the reuse of injection molding losses and machining residues.

Businesstrack Remanufacturing

In cooperation with external partners, business tracks are organized. In these, companies are guided in discovering circular business opportunities, removing barriers and developing new business models.
