Ekkersrijt takes concrete steps toward full circularity

At business park Ekkersrijt, the transition to a circular economy is being worked on together. Thanks to the efforts of entrepreneurs and the municipality of Son and Breugel, important results were achieved in 2024 and the foundation has been laid for further steps in 2025.

Two collective collection rounds were conducted by the end of 2024. In the process, some 5 tons of residual materials were collected. At the same time, it was investigated what part of these materials is suitable for reuse; an estimated 40% of them turned out to be directly reusable! The collection rounds were realized in cooperation with SIMS and ROTOM.

In 2025, the circular program continued and expanded. The number of collection rounds has been increased to five per year, thanks in part to a contribution from the Cooperative Rabobank. You can find the next collection rounds through Circulair Ekkersrijt. Companies also have the opportunity to participate in the Circular Maturity Measurement free of charge. This measurement provides insight into the circular potential of their business operations. You can register via bas@indusym.nl.

In addition, efforts are being made to strengthen the circular network at Ekkersrijt. Company visits, knowledge sharing and targeted innovation projects help companies to jointly develop solutions to circular challenges. On Thursday morning, July 10, the next session will take place around the theme Remanufacturing: seven steps to a business case 'on a beer mat'. There is room for up to 10 companies. Register quickly via mattijs@indusym.nl.

With this joint effort we are building together a future-proof and economically resilient business park. The objective remains clear: gradually work towards 100% circularity on Ekkersrijt. Recently, a group of students from Wageningen University provided valuable insights to support this goal. More information can be found on Circular Ekkersrijt.
