Is a wolf dangerous to humans?

Wolves are wild animals that humans usually avoid. They are shy and keep their distance. An encounter is rare. The chances of a wolf attacking a human are very small. There have been no fatal incidents with wolves in Europe in recent decades.

What should I do if I see a wolf?

Stay calm. Follow this simple advice:

  • Keep your distance. Don't come closer to take a picture.
  • Never feed the wolf. This keeps him afraid of humans.
  • Leave the wolf alone. Don't force him into a corner.
  • Give him room to walk away.
  • Keep your dog on a short leash, even in off-leash areas.

Sometimes young wolves may be curious and actively approach dogs, such as because they are seeking companionship. This behavior is not desired and can be dangerous for both dog and wolf. Therefore, it is wise to always keep your dog on a short leash, even in off-leash areas. This way, you prevent unwanted interactions and protect both your dog and the wolf.

If the wolf does get too close:

  • Speak loudly and make gestures. Clearly show that you are there.
  • Slowly distance yourself.
  • Don't run after the wolf.

How do I report a wolf?
