Wolves are wild animals that humans usually avoid. They are shy and keep their distance. An encounter is rare. The chances of a wolf attacking a human are very small. There have been no fatal incidents with wolves in Europe in recent decades.
Stay calm. Follow this simple advice:
Sometimes young wolves may be curious and actively approach dogs, such as because they are seeking companionship. This behavior is not desired and can be dangerous for both dog and wolf. Therefore, it is wise to always keep your dog on a short leash, even in off-leash areas. This way, you prevent unwanted interactions and protect both your dog and the wolf.
If the wolf does get too close:
Have you seen a wolf or do you think you have seen one? Please report this to the national wolf hotline of BIJ12. There a record is kept of where wolves have been spotted. This gives a better picture of where wolves are hiding and possibly settling.
Reporting can be done at: www.bij12.nl/wolvenmeldpunt
In doing so, you are helping to ensure good research and safe wildlife management.
