Fireworks
You may only set off legal fireworks during New Year's Eve, from 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 to 2 a.m. on Jan. 1.
You are punishable when you:
- buy, have with you and/or set off illegal fireworks;
- set off legal fireworks before 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 and after 2 a.m. on Jan. 1;
- commits violence toward emergency workers, including throwing fireworks.
Fine or criminal record
Police and BOAs enforce fireworks regulations. If you do not follow these rules, you can be fined and even have a criminal record.

Report fireworks nuisance
Are fireworks being set off in your neighborhood or do you suspect someone is in possession of heavy and illegal fireworks?
If so, take one of the following steps:
Fireworks nuisance | Report the nuisance online via the "Report Public Space" page or by phone (0499-491491). Your report helps the municipality determine where the nuisance is the greatest. Based on this, we adjust our deployment and surveillance. Unfortunately, it does not mean that we can prevent all fireworks nuisance in our municipality. |
Fireworks nuisance: underway now and you have (had) visibility of the perpetrators | Call 0900-8844 (police). |
Suspicious and dangerous situations | Call 911 immediately. |
Suspected storage/trafficking of illegal fireworks | Call 0800-7000 (Report Crime Anonymous). |
Tips to limit fireworks damage during New Year's Eve
- Health that no flammable material is available. For example, trash bags, paper, flagpoles, flags, containers and pallets.
- Health that Christmas trees and other combustible material are disposed of in a timely and proper manner.
- Lock trash containers or place them inside during New Year's Eve or in a locked area out of the reach of others.
