Volunteer Insurance

What is it?

It is also important for volunteers to be properly insured. After all, something can always happen during volunteer work. The municipality of Son and Breugel has taken out insurance for this via 'Vrijwilligersnet Nederland'. The Vrijwilligerspolis offers a package of collective insurances with which volunteer organizations can properly insure their volunteers free of charge. The costs are borne by the municipality.

Volunteer insurance is a second (secondary) coverage. This means that the volunteer's own liability insurance, or that of the institution for which he or she performs the activities, always takes precedence over the municipality's volunteer insurance. It is also known as "safety net" insurance. It is advisable not to cancel one's own insurance.

The policy consists of:

  • Collective accident insurance & personal property
  • Liability insurance for volunteers
  • Liability insurance for companies/organizations
  • Directors' liability
  • Casualty insurance for road users
  • Legal Aid

What to do.

Are you a volunteer, or is the volunteer organization working in the municipality of Son en Breugel? Then you are automatically covered by the volunteer policy. So you do not have to register yourself or your organization. Every volunteer is insured under the municipality's volunteer insurance policy. It does not matter how old you are, what kind of voluntary work you do or how often you do it. Even if you do a social internship, you are insured. If you volunteer with the fire department or police, you are not insured through this insurance.

You can find the most recent policy on the website of vrijwilligersnet nederland (please note the site is not secure, this is being worked on by vrijwilligersnet nederland).
