Volunteer Medal 2026 awarded to Geert van den Eertwegh

On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, Mayor Suzanne Otters-Bruijnen presented the Son en Breugel Volunteer Medal to Mr. Geert van den Eertwegh during the Oliebollen Party.

The Volunteer Medal is awarded every year as a token of appreciation. Both residents and non-residents who have rendered selfless service to the Son en Breugel community in any area of social life are eligible.

Breugels Festival

Geert van den Eertwegh has been involved with the Breugels Festijn since 2008. He is the secretary and is described as a stabilizing factor in the board. Thanks to his efforts, the event has grown into an organization that actively seeks cooperation and stands strong. His social approach has positively influenced the organization in how it deals with visitors, the municipality, and sponsors. For the past two years, he has played an important role in the organization of Camp Liberty Zon, a collaboration between the Breugels Festijn, De Bolletjes, and Keep Them Rolling.

Lazy Sonnie Afternoon

In 2015, Geert van den Eertwegh was co-initiator of the Lazy Sonnie Afternoon Foundation, a cultural initiative that combines high-quality live music with local involvement and a relaxed atmosphere.  From 2015 to 2023, this foundation organized monthly performances in the Kapelzaal of La Sonnerie. After the closure of La Sonnerie, these performances take place in the Vestzaktheater in the Dommelhuis.

Geert van den Eertwegh is a board member responsible for facilities. He helps coordinate with the venue, arrange the hall, provide any additional equipment needed by the musicians, and take care of the artists after their performances.
During the annual Lazy Sonnie Festival, which marks the end of the season, he is jointly responsible for setting up the festival grounds, logistics, and ensuring that the festival runs smoothly.

Remember September

In 2019 and 2024, he was involved in organizing the commemoration and celebration of our liberation in September.
