Veterans Day in Son en Breugel

Saturday, June 27, is Dutch Veterans Day. It is a day on which we honor the Dutch servicemen and women who have dedicated themselves to peace, freedom, and security. They did so during wars, peacekeeping missions, humanitarian operations, and international security missions. They often worked under difficult conditions, far from home, and in situations that leave a lasting impression.

In Son en Breugel, we are also paying special attention to our veterans on Dutch Veterans’ Day. For those who are unable to attend the national gathering in The Hague, we are organizing a get-together on June 27 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. This will give veterans the opportunity to meet one another and share their experiences. The guest speaker is Lieutenant Colonel Sam de Haas, Head of Operations at the Ministry of Defense at Eindhoven Air Base, who lives in Son en Breugel. He will speak about his experiences during the humanitarian airdrop mission in Gaza.

Are you a veteran who hasn’t received an invitation but would like to attend on June 27? If so, you can still register with the municipality by June 22 at teamondersteuning@sonenbreugel.nl or by phone at 0499-491 491

It’s wonderful to see that veterans in our community are increasingly connecting with one another. This spring, a group of veterans established the Son en Breugel Veterans Foundation. The foundation is dedicated to fostering connections among veterans and promoting greater social recognition and appreciation.

Would you like to learn more about the foundation? Please visit www.veteranensonenbreugel.nl. In these times, with so much tension and conflict around the world, we realize even more how important it is for people to work toward
international peace and democracy. For this, our veterans deserve our deep appreciation and respect. Let’s continue, as a community, to pay attention to their stories and experiences.
