Mandatory home improvement

What is it?

If you are the owner of a home, gipsy or caravan, you must meet the requirements of the Building Code. If your home, living quarters or trailer no longer meets these requirements, the municipality may require you, the owner, to improve it. If you do not do this, the municipality can close the house. The costs will then be yours.

How does it work?

The requirements in the Building Code that your home must meet cover:

  • technical safety rules
  • health
  • Whether the property is suitable for use
  • energy conservation and environment
  • installations
  • fire safety (fire safe building and fire safe use)
  • construction and demolition work
  • construction and demolition waste

What to do.

You will be notified by the municipality if you need to make any improvements to your property. This will also tell you the deadline by which you must do this.
