Mandatory home improvement
What is it?
If you own a house, mobile home, or trailer, you must comply with the requirements of the Building Decree. If your house, mobile home, or trailer no longer meets these requirements, the municipality can oblige you, as the owner, to make improvements. If you fail to do so, the municipality can close the property. You will then be responsible for the costs.
How does it work?
The requirements in the Building Decree that your home must meet concern:
- technical safety rules
- health
- whether the property is suitable for use
- energy conservation and the environment
- installations
- fire safety (fire-safe construction and fire-safe use)
- construction and demolition work
- construction and demolition waste
What to do.
You will receive a notice from the municipality if you need to make improvements to your home. This notice will also state the deadline by which you must do so.
