Registering as a voter

Every resident of the municipality of Son en Breugel can ask at the town hall if he/she is registered as a voter. You can report to the reception desk for this purpose. If you are not (or not properly) registered then you can submit a written request to review the registration.

Requirements to be allowed to vote

  • you are 18 years of age or older;
  • you are notexcluded from voting;
  • You are a resident of the municipality of Son en Breugel on February 2, 2026
    (if you have moved by that time, you will vote in your new municipality).
  • You have Dutch nationality;
    or you have the nationality of an EU member state;
    or you do not have Dutch nationality, but have lived legally in the Netherlands for at least 5 years without interruption. 

Required to vote: the voting pass

To vote in the municipal elections on Wednesday, March 18, you will need a voting pass. You will receive your personal voting pass by mail no later than March 4. 

With your voting pass you can cast your vote at any polling station in Son en Breugel if you show a valid ID. This proof of identity can be either a passport or an identity card and must not have expired more than 5 years ago. 

Please note:are you moving to another municipality before the elections? If so, you may still have to vote in Son en Breugel. The address where you are officially registered on February 2, 2026 (the day of nomination) determines where you can vote. You will also receive your voting pass at this address.

Lost voting pass 

If you have not received your voting pass by March 4 or if you have lost your pass, you can request a digital replacement until Friday, March 13. You will need your DigiD to do so. 

From March 5, you will find the following on this webpage: 

  • a button that allows you to request a new voting pass online;
  • explanation of how you can request a replacement voting pass at the counter from that moment on. 

Cast your vote on election day

As a resident of Son en Breugel, you can cast your vote anywhere within the municipality of Son en Breugel on Wednesday, March 18. 

  • Check theoverview of polling stationsto see where you want to vote.
  • Please bring your voting pass.
  • Bring your identification (passport, identity card, or driver's license). It must not have expired more than 5 years ago.
  • If everything is in order, you will receive a ballot.
  • Go to the voting booth.
  • Color the bullet red that appears before the name of the person you want to vote for.
  • Fold the ballot and put it in the ballot box. 

If you do not know who you want to vote for, do not color any circles red. This is called casting a blank vote. By doing so, you indicate that you want to exercise your right to vote but do not have a preference. 

Invalid votes

Your ballot will be invalid if you: 

  • color multiple boxes
  • write/sign something on the ballot indicating who you are. 

Did you accidentally cast an invalid ballot? Then you may ask 1 time for a new ballot paper from the polling officials.
