Voters with disabilities

For those who are disabled or have difficulty seeing properly, it can sometimes be difficult to cast a vote. To remove this barrier as much as possible, we have made all polling stations as accessible as possible.

Modifications accessibility polling places

  • wheelchair-friendly furnishing
  • at least 1 voting booth with lower writing sheet
  • each polling place equipped with magnifier with reading light
  • An additional accessible polling place (in the town hall) with special facilities

City Hall: additional accessible polling place

Parking and signage

There are 2 disabled parking spaces near the town hall. The signposts here are placed lower so that they are visible to everyone. Inside, you will find additional explanations of the various tasks at the voting table (such as handing out the ballot paper).

Clear walking route

The walking route through the polling place was marked extra clearly at City Hall using contrasting tape.

Accessible ballot boxes

The ballot boxes in City Hall are lower. This also makes it easier to put in a ballot paper from your wheelchair.

Visual support

At the polling station in City Hall, you can use assistive devices. These are specially designed for people with dyslexia, low literacy, blind, visually impaired and for people with limited hand-arm function (for example, someone with Parkinson's disease).

  • Ballot box
The ballot box is a device with headphones that allows you to hear which candidates are on the list.
  • Voting template
You can use a voting template. This contains tactile numbers and Braille that you place over the ballot.

Transportation to the polling place

Are you less mobile and do you need transport to the polling station? Then the volunteers of AutoMaatje (part of SonenBreugelVerbindt) will pick you up at home for €3.00 and bring you back with their own car.
