Requesting a traffic waiver

What is it?
Sometimes you need an exemption if you want to do something on or to the public road. For example, if you:
- want to place a moving truck or crane on the road (where the road is partially closed)
- buildings
- organizes bicycle tours or events
You apply for a waiver for this from the road authority.
Where should I apply for a waiver?
- For national roads: ministry of infrastructure and environment
- for provincial roads: Provincial States
- for roads under the management of the water board: the water board
- For other public roads: the municipality
- For vehicle requirements: the RDW
Traffic regulations are laid down in the Road Traffic Act, the Road Traffic and Traffic Signals Regulations (RVV 1990) and the Road Traffic Administrative Provisions Decree (BABW). Everyone must comply with these rules. In special cases, you may be granted exemption from a particular rule in this legislation. For example, to temporarily close the road for a renovation or street party or an exemption to use a non-motorized bicycle path.
What to do.
If the roads in question are under the management of the municipality, then apply for the waiver to the municipality. Please provide the following information with your application:
- place, date and time of your activity
- reason and need for the waiver
What do I need?
An application for a waiver must include:
- Applicant's name and address.
- If necessary, registration number and description of the vehicle for which exemption is being requested.
- Reasons why waivers are requested.
- Description of the type of waiver.
- Place, date, time and duration of desired waiver.
