Dommelpas area developments: new bridge, new bike path
The Dommelpas bridge is in critical condition and is being replaced. The municipality of Son en Breugel is also renewing the bike path. Work on this will start on September 29, 2025 and last until the end of January 2026.
The Dommelpas bridge and the bicycle path between Koekoeklaan and Doormanlaan will be closed to all traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists will be diverted via the designated detour routes. The detour signs will be placed this week and will take effect from Sept. 29. For the safety of Dommel users such as canoeists, signs will be placed and ropes with warning balls will be stretched. Fences have already been placed in the deer park to allow the animals to get used to it before the work starts.

Bridge
First, the municipality will remove the old bridge. In preparation for the work for the new bridge, sheet pile walls will be placed in the Dommel River. Then the new bridge comes in. This is an impressive moment. For the bridge is 30 meters long and is lifted and placed in its entirety.
Bike path
The existing tiles of the bike path will give way to asphalt pavement. This makes for a more comfortable and durable bike path.
Trees
Along the bike path are poplars that were once planted as a production forest. Many of these trees are at the end of their lifespan and are therefore being removed. The healthy, old oaks will remain. Parts of the removed trees will go to the school Buitenstebinnen. They will use them for creative and educational activities and beautification of the school grounds. The redesign of the greenery will be done last. New trees will also be planted then.

Reducing flooding
The flooding in Cuckoo Avenue is also being addressed simultaneously by the municipality. This is done by collecting rainwater from Koekoeklaan into the old river arm.
Redesign
The area will be redesigned following work on the bridge, bike path and flooding. The new design pays plenty of attention to biodiversity, nature experience, education and recreation. IVN, the cyclists' union, BuitensteBinnen elementary school, the deer park manager, local residents and other stakeholders are involved in the developments.
