New developments for the F58 Tilburg-Laarbeek cycle route
The F58 through-route is a fast cycling connection between the municipalities of Tilburg and Laarbeek. On Wednesday, April 1, the green light was also given in Son en Breugel for preparations to build the F58. This cycling route is part of a Brabant cycling network that allows cyclists to travel quickly, safely, and comfortably, positioning the bicycle as a serious alternative to the car. In addition, the municipalities of Best and Son en Breugel and the province of North Brabant have made supplementary agreements to the existing Administrative Agreement. In addition to the construction of the F58, this offers excellent opportunities for the creation of an Ecological Corridor and an eastern access route to Terraweg.
Accessibility through the mobility transition
The roads in the Netherlands are becoming increasingly congested, which is hindering accessibility. With the growth of the Brainport Region, this problem will only get worse. As part of the mobility transition, commuters, residents, and employees are being encouraged to travel differently. One of those options is cycling. That is why the provinceof North Brabant, together with municipalities, is working on a comprehensive network of through-cycling routes. These are comfortable, wide, and safe bike paths, with few to no obstacles, allowing you to cover long distances quickly. In this way, the (electric) bicycle is becoming a viable alternative to the car for more and more residents of North Brabant. The F58 is an exceptionally long through-cycle route, running from Tilburg via Oisterwijk, Hilvarenbeek, Oirschot, Eindhoven, Best, Son en Breugel to Lieshout (municipality of Laarbeek).
Next step toward a comprehensive bicycle network
“We are proud of the new steps we are taking,” says Alderman Boersma of Son en Breugel. “The Addendum to the Administrative Agreement is a fine example of what can be achieved through close consultation. It is precisely by seeking cooperation with the province, our neighboring municipality of Best, and the business community that we can now capitalize on opportunities for synergy in this area. We are very pleased with the green light for the realization of the F58 in our municipality and hope to also soon begin preparations for the F50 through-cycle route from Sint-Oedenrode to Eindhoven. That will complete the through-cycle network for Son en Breugel.”
Bicycle routes connect municipalities
“In Best, we have begun work on the construction and preparation of the F2 and F58 through-cycle routes—from Best to Eindhoven and from Best to Oirschot and Son en Breugel,” says Alderman Willem Slijper, Alderman the municipality of Best. “It’s fantastic that Son en Breugel is also going to start work on their section of this route. This can only benefit users. We, too, are very pleased with the collaboration and the opportunities offered by the Addendum.”
F58 completes the bicycle network
"Brabant is the cycling province of the Netherlands," says Provincial Executive Member Stijn Smeulders (Mobility). "That’s because our largest cities and towns are relatively close together—at distances that are certainly manageable on an electric bike. That’s why we’re working on a network of through-traffic routes that allow you to ride from A to B smoothly, safely, and without obstacles. The F58 is one of the longest and most important links in that network. Today, we’re adding another great piece to that puzzle here in Son. This will make cycling an attractive alternative to driving for even more people in Brabant.”
