New LED lighting for the Son Lift Bridge, the Hooijdonk Bridge, and the Stad van Gerwen Bridge

The lighting at the Son Lift Bridge, the Hooijdonk Bridge, and the Stad van Gerwen Bridge is outdated and in need of replacement. This presents an ideal opportunity for Rijkswaterstaat to upgrade the lights to LED lighting. Work will begin on April 15, 2026.

Work Schedule

The work overlaps to some extent because work is being carried out in several locations at the same time.

  • Construction work will take place at the Hooijdonk Bridge from April 15 through May 7, 2026.
  • Construction work will take place at the Stad van Gerwen Bridge from April 15 through May 12, 2026.
  • Work will be carried out at the Son lift bridge from April 22 through May 6, 2026.

More sustainable LED bulbs

Choosing LED lights ensures sustainable and safer lighting. In the coming months, Rijkswaterstaat will begin work on these sites, causing minimal disruption to road traffic and shipping and little to no disruption to local residents. The new lights do look different from the current lighting.

Animal-friendly

The design and implementation of these works took into account the area’s flora and fauna, including bats. The new lighting was selected and installed in such a way as to minimize disturbance to wildlife.
