Locations of Japanese Knotweed in Son en Breugel
The banks of the Dommel and the canal are the responsibility of Waterschap de Dommel and Rijkswaterstaat respectively.
The locations known to us are therefore not mentioned in this list!
Here is a listing of the known locations in Son en Breugel where Japanese Knotweed (JDK) has been found.
Already known locations of JDK in Son en Breugel; roughly from south to north
- Green Lane: 4 locations. Seen from west to east: on the left near (switch?) box with posts and after the entrance to the shed in the verge/ ditch; further on at the level of tile platform (left) on the right and a little further on where little building stands in the field: also on the right in verge and ditch. Municipality excavated these locations in September 2025, but the JDK was already coming up considerably in October, 1m3 of roots removed by volunteers on October 25 and 9 more full green waste bags in early November 2025.
- Hooijdonk: seen from the canal bridge towards Nederwetten, on the left after the large barn and thus opposite the entrances of house numbers 1 and 1a: in the verge to the edge of the road, in the ditch far (estimated 10 meters) into the woods.
- Extended Huizingalaan, left of the bike path leading to the Wilhelmina Canal.
- Wilhelminakanaal, west of 't Haventje 2 locations; on the other side of this, the north side: 2 locations and on the south side near the Hooijdonksebrug. These are the responsibility of Rijkswaterstaat, which is aware of them but does nothing about them.
- Corner of Mill Street/Wilhelminakanaal: one of the first sites to be covered by volunteers since August 2021. Meanwhile JDK-free.
- Around and behind the electricity house in the turn of Molenstraat and garden of van Rooij on east side: one of the first locations volunteers have been working on since August 2021. Meanwhile JDK-free.
- Canal Road North, left side dirt path to Water Buffalo, about halfway between Broek Street and Kwade Street. Is occasionally taken care of by volunteers.

- Crocus Street 14 and 16: in the backyards to the Groote Beek; will be removed by residents as much as possible.

- Beekstraat, across Groote Beek and the terrace of 't Krut off house numbers 4-16. The bank has been addressed by volunteers since April 2025.
- Zonhove, next to bridge over the Groote Beek on Nieuwstraat, one of the sites volunteers have been taking care of since April 2023. By also removing as much of the roots as possible, this location was JDK-free after just over a year and a half.
- Zonhove forest, next to northern path of Gnome Path, off house number 5 in De Bontstraat as well as in the hedge of house number 5: one of the locations that volunteers have been taking care of since August 2022. Meanwhile JDK-free.

- Larch avenue: north of house number 7, around the thick tree, along the road and also a bit into the forest path as well as behind the garden of no.7; one of the locations that volunteers have been working on since September 2021. The JDK has virtually disappeared there by now. Deeper into the forest a single specimen of JDK is still sometimes found.
- Plesman Avenue: at the bend, near the bike path. Large slice as well as among the bushes around it: one of the first locations that volunteers have taken care of since August 2021. Less and less JDK keeps coming up.
- Butterfly Avenue, from the traffic circle on the right. Volunteers have been removing the narrow strip of JDK since June 2024; getting fewer and fewer.

- Lieshoutseweg: by the tree east of house number 4 (i.e. opposite house number 3).
- Orion Avenue, in the (dry) ditch behind the sheds of house numbers 18-22. Residents remove shoots regularly. By now virtually JDK-free.
