Locations of Japanese Knotweed in Son en Breugel
The banks of the Dommel and the canal are the responsibility of Waterschap de Dommel and Rijkswaterstaat respectively.
The locations known to us are therefore not mentioned in this list!
Here is a listing of the locations in Son en Breugel known to us where Japanese Knotweed (JDK) has been found.
The listing lists them roughly from south to north, except for the last 4.
- Green Lane: 4 locations. Seen from west to east: on the left near (switch?) box with posts and after the entrance to the barn in the verge/ ditch; further on at the level of tile plateau (left) on the right and a little further on where little building stands in the field: also on the right in verge.
- Hooijdonk: seen from the canal bridge towards Nederwetten, on the left after the large barn and thus opposite the entrances of house numbers 1 and 1a: in the ditch, in the verge and ditch until far (estimated 10 meters) into the woods.
- Corner of Mill Street/Wilhelminakanaal: one of the sites we have been working on since August 2021. By now virtually JDK-free.
- Around and behind the power house in the turn of Mill Street and garden on the east side: one of the sites we have been working on since August 2021. By now virtually JDK-free.
- Brook Street, on the shoulder and bank of the Big Brook opposite house numbers 4-16. Since August 2024, we have been trying to eradicate the JDK there.
- Beekstraat, across stream and terrace of 't Krutje near house numbers 4-16. Has been taken care of by 't Krutje since August.
- Zonhove, next to bridge over the Grote Beek in Nieuwstraat, one of the locations we have been dealing with since April 2023. By also removing as much of the roots as possible, this location is almost JDK-free after just over a year.
- Zonhove grove, next to north path of Gnome Path, off house number 5 on De Bont Street, one of the sites we have been working on since August. By now virtually JDK-free.
- Argus Butterfly Avenue, at the end, between house numbers 9 and 10: a field that extends deeper into the forest. A second club of volunteers has been working here since April 2024.
- Keizermantell Avenue: in the parkway opposite house number 27. Addressed by a resident in that avenue. Virtually eliminated.
- Larch Avenue: north of house number 7, around the thick tree, along the road and also a bit into the forest path; one of the sites we have been working on since September 2021. The JDK has virtually disappeared there by now.
- Plesman Avenue: in the bend, near the bike path. Big slice as well as among the bushes around it: one of the locations we have been dealing with since August 2021. Less and less JDK keeps coming up.
- Between Potjesberg 5 and Hoogenberg 2 along path; These are few and have been addressed by us since 2022.
- Dommel Pass: 2 locations: north side, between the trees, opposite the deer park, and west side, in front, next to the garden of Koekoeklaan 2.
- Kwadestraat, seen from the Lieshoutseweg at the first right angle bend: on the left still the remnants of a high rising field full of an estimated 10 by 20 meters! Being addressed by owner.
- Lieshoutseweg: by the tree east of house number 4 (i.e. opposite house number 3)
- Orion Avenue, in the (dry) ditch behind the sheds of house numbers 18-22. Residents regularly remove the shoots.
- Van Anrooijlaan/Dresdenlaan: in the forest edge some specimens, by us always removed since 2022. Probably now JDK-free.
- Gentian Avenue, next to driveway Municipal Yard.
- Planetenlaan/Vresselseweg, in the corner near the allotments.
- Wolfswinkel, in the bend northeast of house number 4: was a huge slab in 2022. Has been addressed by municipality and in consultation with local residents, sheep now graze there and very little JDK is left.
- Weser Avenue next to house number 22.
- Honeybee 4: behind the shed, at the forest edge a few specimens. By resident, storage of JDK will be removed.
- Crocus Street 3, in the backyard with spurs to Crocus Street 3 and Tulip Street 9 and 7; occupant of No. 3 has been sticking out for several years.
- Crocus Street 14 and 16: in the backyards to the Groote Beek; will be removed by residents as much as possible.
- Poppy Avenue 9, in the front yard. Resident occasionally tries to remove it.
- Extended Huizingalaan, left of the bike path leading to the Wilhelmina Canal.
- Butterfly Avenue, from the traffic circle on the right. Volunteers have removed the narrow strip of JDK since June 2024, but there is more in the soil.
- Lieshoutseweg 13, about 200 meters from here to the east, on the municipal boundary.
- Olen, in berm/ ditch diagonally opposite the company with house number 42.
- Canal Road North, left side dirt road to Water Buffalo, about halfway between Broek Street and Kwade Street.
- Vlieland Avenue, opposite Ameland Avenue: contested from the end of April 2024, possibly JDK-free by now.
