frequently asked questions pupil transport
Pupil transport is arranged for the municipality of Son and Breugel by Forseti.
For substantive questions, please contact Forseti at:
- phone: 073-76 01 993
- email: sonenbreugel.llv@forseti.nl
What is it?
You can apply for pupil transport for children who cannot travel to school independently due to distance or disability. The municipality reimburses the transportation costs of a pupil between home address and the nearest school of the desired direction accessible to the pupil.
Based on the advice of the indicator, the municipality decides whether and for which transport facility the student is eligible.
The transportation facilities
- mileage allowance for transportation by bicycle (possibly with accompaniment)
- reimbursement for public transportation (possibly accompanied)
- custom transport
If you have indicated that your child can cycle independently or travel independently by public transport, the decision will be made by the municipality on this basis and the Indicator will not be asked for advice.
What to do.
Request
You complete and submit the school year application form to the municipality. Please read the explanatory notes before you start the application form.
Is pupil transportation requested for pupils 16 years of age or older? Then the parents make the request and the student completes the consent form.
Requirements
The application must be submitted by May 15. Your application will be processed before the start of the new school year if you have submitted it before May 15. If we receive your application after May 15, you will be notified within 12 weeks.
For a (special) primary and special education school
- Can your child travel independently or accompanied by a bicycle? The municipality will then reimburse the cost on a mileage reimbursement basis if the school is further than 6 kilometers from your home.
- Can your child travel independently or accompanied by public transportation? The municipality will reimburse the cost of public transportation if the school is further than 6 kilometers from your home.
For secondary (special) education
Is your child unable to travel independently due to a structural physical, mental, sensory or psychological impairment? The municipality will reimburse the costs on a mileage reimbursement basis if your child can ride a bicycle under supervision or the municipality will reimburse the cost of public transportation for the child and her/his companion.
Adapted transportation
The following cases may qualify for adapted transportation:
- If a mental, physical or sensory impairment requires adapted transportation;
- if the travel time by public transportation exceeds one and a half hours and the travel time can be reduced by 50 percent or more with adapted transportation;
- if public transportation is lacking and the student cannot travel by bicycle or moped.
Central boarding location
If your child is eligible for adapted transportation, we assume the use of the central pick-up location. The central pick-up location is the parking lot at Vlieland Avenue 12 where students are picked up and dropped off by cabs. A coordinator is present here to oversee transportation. As a parent, you are responsible for ensuring that your child is present at the pick-up location on time.
Only in case of severe medical restrictions or severe family disadvantage, there is the possibility of your child being picked up and dropped off at home by the cab. This will be assessed after the application is submitted.
Transportation to out-of-school care (BSO).
- You can request transportation for the student from school to a BSO after school. The student will then not be dropped off at the pick-up location or home, but at the BSO. To qualify for this transportation, the following Requirements apply:
- The student attends an elementary, special elementary or special education school.
- The student is eligible for adapted transportation (cab transportation).
- There must be an approved BSO (registered in the National Childcare Register). You cannot apply for transportation to a host parent care center or babysitter. Other travel destinations such as locations for sports, hobbies, counseling and treatment do not fall under a BSO.
- The BSO must be located within the municipal boundary.
- Transportation must match the school's regular end time.
- The student attends the BSO on set days.
- There is someone present at the BSO who takes responsibility once the student leaves transportation.
- Parents remain responsible for transportation back from the BSO to the home address.
Own financial contribution
When the pupil attends a (special) elementary school, the municipality can apply a financial threshold. This means
- You pay the cost of the first 6 kilometers yourself. Only the costs above the threshold amount will be reimbursed to you.
- The municipality requires you to contribute to the cost according to your ability to pay. This is only possible if the distance between the school and your home is more than 20 kilometers.
- The municipality assesses how much the own financial contribution is based on the aggregate income (the taxable income) of both parent(s)/caregiver(s). You can request the aggregate income of both parent(s)/caregiver(s) from the tax authorities.
Are you entitled to financial compensation?
The municipality will specify how you can claim these costs.
The pupil transport regulation explains when you will receive compensation for pupil transport.
