Parents can apply for school transportation in certain cases. The municipality considers factors such as the travel distance and the school the child attends.

You can register your child for student transportation using the green button above. After registration, your application will appear in the municipality's customer portal.

Forseti (our student transportation department) handles your application.

You will receive your decision by mail and it will also appear digitally in your customer portal.

What is it?

You can apply for pupil transportation for children who cannot travel to school independently due to a disability or impairment. But other pupils may also qualify for an allowance under certain circumstances. For example, pupils who attend a school that is related to a religion or philosophy of life and who live too far away from this school.

Based on the advice of the assessor, the municipality assesses whether and for what form of transport the student is eligible. An assessor is, for example, a remedial educationalist or a treating physician.

Forms of transport

  • Mileage allowance for transportation by bicycle (with escort if necessary)
  • Reimbursement for public transportation (with assistance if necessary)
  • Mileage allowance for transportation by car
  • Adapted transport (taxi)

What to do.

Request

Fill in the application form for the school year in full and submit it to the municipality. Read the information about student transportation on this page and in the frequently asked questions carefully, or watch the videos at the bottom of this page before you start filling in the application form.

Is pupil transportation requested for pupils 16 years of age or older? Then the parents make the request and the student completes the consent form.

Requirements

The application must be submitted by June 1. Your application will be processed before the start of the new school year if you have submitted it before June 1. If we receive your application after May 31, you will be notified within 12 weeks.

For a (special) primary and special education school

  • Can your child travel independently or accompanied by a bicycle? The municipality will then reimburse the cost on a mileage reimbursement basis if the school is further than 6 kilometers from your home.
  • Can your child travel independently or under supervision by public transport? If so, the municipality will reimburse the costs of public transport if the school is more than 6 kilometers from your home.

For secondary (special) education

Is your child unable to travel independently due to a structural physical, mental, sensory, or psychological disability or limitation? The municipality will reimburse the costs based on a mileage allowance if your child can cycle under supervision, or the municipality will reimburse the costs of public transportation for the child and his or her companion.

Adapted transport (taxi)

The following cases may qualify for adapted transportation:

  • If a structural physical, mental, sensory, or psychological disability or limitation requires adapted transportation;
  • If the travel time by public transport exceeds one and a half hours and the travel time by adapted transport can be reduced by 50 percent or more;
  • If public transportation is unavailable and the student cannot travel by bicycle or moped.

Central boarding point

If your child is eligible for adapted transport (taxi), we assume that you will use the central pick-up point. The central pick-up point is the parking lot at Vlielandlaan 12, where the taxis pick up and drop off the students. A coordinator is present here to supervise the transport. As a parent, you are responsible for ensuring that your child arrives at the pick-up point on time in the morning and that you pick up your child from the pick-up point on time in the afternoon.

Only in case of severe medical restrictions or severe family disadvantage, there is the possibility that your child will be picked up and dropped off at home by the cab. This will be assessed after the application is submitted.

Transportation to out-of-school care (BSO).

You can request transportation for the student from school to a BSO after school. The student will then not be dropped off at the pick-up location or home, but at the BSO. To qualify for this transportation, the following Requirements apply:

  • The student attends a primary school, special primary school, or special (secondary) school.
  • The student is eligible for adapted transportation (taxi).
  • There must be an approved BSO (registered in the National Childcare Register). You cannot apply for transportation to a host parent care center or babysitter. Other travel destinations such as locations for sports, hobbies, counseling and treatment do not fall under a BSO.
  • The BSO must be located within the municipal boundary.
  • Transportation must match the school's regular end time.
  • The student attends the BSO on set days.
  • There is someone present at the BSO who takes responsibility once the student leaves transportation.
  • Parents remain responsible for transportation back from the BSO to the home address.

Own financial contribution

When the pupil attends a (special) primary school, the municipality may apply a financial threshold. This may mean that:

  • You pay the costs for the first 6 kilometers yourself. Only the costs that exceed the threshold amount will be reimbursed.
  • the municipality asks you to contribute to the costs according to your means. This is only possible if the distance between the school and your home is more than 20 kilometers.

The municipality assesses the amount of the personal financial contribution based on the combined income (taxable income) of both parents/guardians. You can request the combined income of both parents/guardians from the tax authorities at .

Are you entitled to financial compensation?

The municipality decides whether you are entitled to reimbursement for travel by bicycle, public transport, or private car. The reimbursement is based on the cheapest mode of travel. If you are eligible, the municipality will notify you.
