, Appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau

Mr. Cees van Beukering (73) has been actively involved in real estate management in a unique and meaningful way since the 1980s. He has fundamentally professionalized real estate management in the Netherlands by focusing on property users rather than on finances or the buildings themselves. He has trained hundreds of real estate managers in this approach.

Real Estate Programs

Mr. Van Beukering served for decades as program director and instructor for post-bachelor’s real estate programs at The Hague University of Applied Sciences (1985–2018) and Euroforum (1990–2012).
Around 2012, Cees van Beukering created an online platform offering various workshops and courses. This platform evolved into the Vastgoed Business School. As director and instructor (2012–2022), he spearheaded a broad new range of courses that focused on the value real estate can bring to the lives of end-users.  This alternative approach to value has had a significant impact on the quality of real estate in the Netherlands.
Since 2023, he has served as director of the Vastgoed Regie Academie (VRA) and played a key role in its founding. The Vastgoed Regie Academie is an innovative and forward-looking educational organization that offers courses, training programs, and masterclasses in the fields of real estate management, real estate development, and real estate direction.

Professionalization of Real Estate Management

Cees van Beukering has undertaken various initiatives aimed at professionalizing the sector. For example, he has collaborated with other parties to develop software packages for managing real estate portfolios, particularly those of housing associations. At his initiative, standard values were developed for real estate maintenance activities.
In 2001, Mr. Van Beukering founded VGME, a registry for real estate managers. This has grown into an influential foundation and now constitutes the largest real estate network in the Netherlands. The VGME meetings are consistently attended by hundreds of real estate professionals each year. Cees van Beukering has held various board positions (unpaid – 2001 to present) and is an honorary member.
Mr. Van Beukering founded the Platform for Economy & Space in 2012. The participants in this platform focus on sustainable business operations, healthcare, housing, facilities management, and mobility. . He played a key role in developing vision sessions, writing position papers, facilitating regional meetings, organizing book cafés, and fostering collaboration between policymakers and entrepreneurs.

Royal Honor for Ms. M.C.P. van Kempen-van den Oord
Appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau

Maaike van Kempen (60) has been volunteering for various community organizations for many years.

Galactosemia Organizations

Galactosemia is a rare, hereditary chronic metabolic disorder in which appropriate treatment during the first week after birth is critical to the patient’s chances of survival. Unfortunately, there is no effective treatment available thereafter to manage the symptoms of the disease.

The European Galactosemia Association (EGS) is an umbrella organization open to all national galactosemia associations across Europe. Maaike van Kempen has served as secretary since its founding in 1997. From April 1998 through 2018, she also served as secretary of the Dutch Galactosemia Association (GVN). From 1998 to 2018, as secretary, she was almost single-handedly the driving force behind the GVN. She often spent 20–30 hours a week building up this association. The association has grown into a broad, professional, and structurally funded patient organization. She initiated and organized many activities, such as the family weekend, informational meetings, fundraising, the youth outing, the magazine, and the website. She remains active within this association, serving on the Medical Committee and as a point of contact for parents, patients, and professionals.

Thanks in part to Ms. Van Kempen’s tireless dedication and perseverance, the Netherlands has become a hub for research into galactosemia and the development of potential future treatments. The Netherlands now has two recognized centers of expertise. By establishing and organizing annual meetings between patients and scientists, both within the Netherlands and internationally, scientific collaboration in this field has received a tremendous boost.

MeeDoen S&B Foundation, MeeDoen Werkt Foundation, and Doorpakken Wonen Foundation

Since June 2013, Ms. Van Kempen has been a co-founder and chair of the MeeDoen S&B Foundation. This foundation is dedicated to supporting children and young people with disabilities. She is responsible for securing sponsors for the foundation’s many activities. In addition, she serves on the activities committee and acts as a supervisor during recreational activities and tailored sports programs.

She is also the chairperson of the Meedoen Werkt Foundation. This foundation is dedicated to helping young people and (young) adults in Son en Breugel who struggle to find and keep suitable employment. The goal is to give these young people the opportunity to join the workforce and participate in society. In addition to running the foundation, she also helps guide young people toward suitable employment. In that role, she seeks opportunities at companies, institutions, and/or other organizations for internships, day programs, and job placements. Ms. Van Kempen receives compensation for part of the time she dedicates to the MeeDoen Werkt Foundation. However, she also devotes a significant amount of time to this foundation as a volunteer.

Maaike van Kempen helped establish the Doorpakken Wonen Foundation in 2016 and has been actively involved with the foundation ever since. She has played a key role in securing housing for fellow villagers with autism spectrum disorders.
