Royal award, ribbon
What is it?
A royal decoration is given to people who have merited themselves to society in a special or exceptional way.
You can think of:
- volunteers who make a long-term commitment to organizations in areas such as sports, arts, culture, church life, nature, foster care or public order and safety
- people who have made very special achievements for the benefit of society in their paid job or an ancillary position that go far beyond what can be expected of a person
A royal decoration is awarded by the mayor. Before the mayor can pins up an award, an extensive procedure must be completed. That procedure begins with a nomination.
What to do.
Do you know someone in your area who deserves a ribbon? Then you can nominate that person. Such a nomination starts with completing the first request form. You can find that form on lintjes.nl, section Voordragen. On that website you can also read more about the procedure.
After you submit the initial request form, a city staff member will contact you to discuss how to proceed.
Start an application in a timely manner
Please note that an application procedure for a royal decoration takes a lot of time. Therefore, applications for the annual "rain of ribbons" on April 26 (the day before King's Day) must be submitted before July 15 of the previous year.
Sometimes an award can also be presented at another time during the year. In those cases, applications must also be submitted to the municipality 4 to 5 months before the time of presentation. For more information, contact the municipality or visit lintjes.nl.
Municipal award
The municipality of Son and Breugel also has its own municipal award: the volunteer medal.
What does it cost?
There is no charge to apply for a royal decoration or volunteer medal.
