Deer camp and aviaries in Son en Breugel
The residents of Son and Breugel are happy with the three municipal animal enclosures: a deer park in the Dommel valley (since 1969) and two aviaries, one in Son and one in Breugel.
Management, maintenance and animal care are among the municipal duties of the neighborhood management teams.
Enthusiastic volunteers take care of the animals and perform minor maintenance in the enclosures.
A regular volunteer feeds the animals daily, provides them with water and keeps the enclosures clean.
Animal Welfare
In the meadow and in the indoor enclosure of the deer park there are farm animals such as donkeys, goats, sheep and, of course, deer.
For information, questions and advice about farm animals, please contact our zookeeper Cor Essens T 06-13044437.
- We carefully considered the composition of the animal population in the deer park.
- The attendant sets apart sick animals inside so that they can stay dry and sheltered to recover. He calls in the veterinarian if necessary.
- We, along with the caretakers, also provide animal registration, vaccinations and ear tagging.
- We follow closely the legal measures and instructions that come with keeping animals, such as quarantine or culls in the event of an outbreak of contagious animal diseases.
Do not bring your own animals
We strongly urge you not to bring animals to the deer park under any circumstances due to animal welfare concerns. These do not fit into the existing population and we must house them elsewhere or in many cases unfortunately cull them.
For advice on stray animals, wild animals in need and pet rehoming, please see Shelter for stray and injured animals or contact our zookeeper Cor Essens T 06-13044437 or the ROZE foundation (Regionale Opvang Zwerfdieren Eindhoven) at T 040-7470147 or info@rozeindhoven.nl.
Contact with animals
The deer camp is open to the public on carrion days, several times a year. We will provide information on signs at the deer camp (we will post them soon) and in the local media when we host these scavenging days.
Volunteers will make sure there is supervision on those occasions. They also make sure that there are also good petting, smaller animals such as guinea pigs and rabbits in the deer camp, which do not normally reside in the deer camp.
