Evaluation of forest management in 't Harde Ven and Sonse Bergen

We are working to create vital and future-proof forests. The 'Integrated Management Plan for Forest and Nature Areas 2020-2029' sets out how we manage our forests. The first five-year management period will be completed in 2025. On this page, you will find the results of the evaluation over the past few years.

Why conduct an evaluation?

Forest development is a long-term process; it takes decades before the results are fully visible. To ensure that we are on the right track, we have had the work carried out in the period 2021-2025 evaluated. This evaluation examined whether the measures implemented, such as thinning, contribute to a varied and climate-resistant forest with a high level of biodiversity.

Independent assessment

Transparency and craftsmanship are central to our forest management. That is why the evaluation of the executing party (Bosgroep Zuid Nederland) was assessed by an independent agency (Staro Natuur en Buitengebied). The conclusion is that the management was carried out professionally, the timber harvest remained well within the agreed limits, and the measures effectively contribute to the nature conservation goals.

What happens next?

The results of this evaluation will form the basis for the second management cycle, which will start in 2026. We will continue to monitor forest management periodically to ensure that the forests in Son en Breugel are preserved for future generations.

Results of the evaluation and external audit

Bosgroep Zuid-Nederland has evaluated forest management. To ensure that this assessment is fair and accurate, an independent consultant from Staro Natuur en Buitengebied has reviewed the evaluation.

The main conclusions are:

  • Expertly executed: Forest management has been carried out carefully and expertly over the past five years.
  • Goals are achieved: Management contributes to achieving the goals set out in the management plan.
  • Within the agreed limits: Less wood was harvested than the maximum allowed. 68% of the growth was harvested, while 80% was allowed.
  • Accurate picture of the situation:TheBosgroep's evaluation provides an accurate and realistic picture of the situation in the forest.
