Report a Protest or Demonstration

Protesting is a fundamental right. To ensure the protest runs smoothly, you are required to notify the municipality in advance. Submit your notification at least 48 hours before the protest begins. Notifying the municipality of a protest or demonstration is free of charge.

Submit a Notice of a Protest or Demonstration

Please provide the following information in the online form:

  • What is the purpose of the event?
  • Where and how you want to demonstrate.
  • On what day and at what time you would like to demonstrate.
  • What is the estimated number of participants?

How far in advance should I give notice?

Notify us of the demonstration 48 hours before it begins and before you announce it on social media. 

Does this refer to Friday afternoon through Sunday, or to holidays? See below. 

Demonstration on Friday afternoon, over the weekend, or on a holiday

  • Demonstrations on Friday afternoons or on the weekend: Please sign up by 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the latest  
  • Demonstrations on recognized holidays: Notify the authorities 2 business days before the date and time of the demonstration

What happens after you file a report?

Once we have received your notification, we will contact you to make arrangements regarding the planned event. 

What are the rules?

The municipality of Son en Breugel believes it is important that everyone be able to exercise their right to demonstrate. That is why we protect this right as best we can.

We only impose restrictions on a demonstration when necessary. We do this to prevent unrest and problems, to protect public health, or to ensure the safe flow of traffic.

What happens if you don't give advance notice?

Protesting is a fundamental right. That is why, as a municipality, we generally allow it. 

If a demonstration was not reported in advance, the mayor may be forced to restrict it because there was little or no time to make the necessary preparations.
