Son and Breugel Board presents budget 2026 and multi-year estimate 2027 - 2029
The Son en Breugel Municipal Board today presented the 2026 budget and 2027-2029 multi-year forecast. In 2026 and subsequent years, the budget shows a deficit. This is partly because the payment of the municipal fund lags behind the tasks that the municipality has. In addition, starting in 2028, a significant cutback from the State is to be expected.
Alderman Finance, Jan Boersma: "In the May Circular we received additional resources for 2026 and 2027. We want to use these resources to implement policies that we have adopted and not new policies. However, these resources are insufficient to carry out our tasks. It therefore remains necessary to look critically at the costs of the current tasks and we must be cautious about taking on new tasks.
The priority for the municipality is to continue to provide a (financial) safety net for residents who need it. 'Stimulating housing construction in Son and Breugel also remains of great importance,' says Boersma. 'However, this involves complicated and lengthy processes, as a result of which results are not immediately visible. To enable and/or accelerate housing projects, we are actively looking at using external financing, such as within the Beethovendeal.
Increase in local taxes
In 2026, the waste collection levy for single-person households rises from €272.88 to €294.72 and for multi-person households from €342.12 to €369.48. The sewerage levy will increase by more than
€ 11,00. The OZB rate has been adjusted. After adjusting for the increase in value, the rates go up by 3.7% inflation correction. This was established as such in the Framework Memorandum.
