Tree planting days in Bosgebied West and at Oud Meer

In March, we will be planting trees in Bosgebied West and in the woods near Oud Meer. We will be doing this together with primary school pupils, IVN, and the Bosgroep. You can also help out on Thursday, March 26, 2026.

Western forest area: creation of a forest edge

Together with pupils from De Harlekijn primary school, we are planting a new forest edge in Bosgebied West. We are creating a gradual transition from open grassland to shrubs and then to forest. The forest edge consists of native shrubs that are suited to the soil and environment. This creates greater biodiversity. The variety of shrubs attracts insects, birds, and small mammals and provides the forest behind it with shelter from wind and drought.

Recovery after flooding

At Oud Meer In 2024, trees died in several places due to prolonged flooding. We are replanting these open areas. We have deliberately chosen a mix of different native deciduous tree species. These are species that occur naturally here and are suited to the soil and water system. This will allow a varied forest to grow in these areas again. Variety in species makes the forest stronger. It can better cope with extreme precipitation, drought, and disease. In this way, we are building a future-proof forest with more species, more resilience, and more life.

In the forest near Oud Meer, students from the following schools are helping out:

  • The Block Temple
  • Inside out
  • Sundial
  • The Space
  • Stokland
