General info on Gladness Control

Gladness fighters keep roads safe and available

Gladness fighters keep roads and streets safe and available during winter conditions.
Beginning in early November, we are again ready for winter service. We go out when slipperiness is predicted.

Where can I find information about slipperiness and whether it has been/will be gritted?

  • Check knmi.nl to see if slipperiness warnings are in effect.
  • Warnings for code orange and code red also appear on NOS teletext (page 71).
  • The website Meteoalarm lists all outstanding warnings from European countries.
  • But national, regional and local media also spread warnings about expected slipperiness.

How can I tell that it has been gritted?

You can only tell that a road or bike path has been gritted when the road surface is dry. You can then see the white salt on the road surface. If we grit during black ice and snowfall, you will probably not be able to see that the road has been gritted. So you should always pay attention when you go out on the road if slipperiness is announced.

Tips when hitting the road in icy conditions

When hitting the road in expected slipperiness, remember the following:

  • Adjust your speed
  • Keep sufficient distance
  • Health that your car is in good condition
  • Always allow for freezing of the road surface
