With the help of traffic controllers, traffic can proceed "roundabout" as usual. 

What: Work Enexis

When: Monday, June 2 through Friday, June 6, 2025

Due to work being done by Enexis on New Street from Monday, June 2 through Friday, June 6, 2025, the roadway northbound between Brook Street and Church Street will be blocked off to motorized traffic.

We expect delays to be very long during rush hour. We recommend taking an alternative route, for example via the A50. 

• Temporary traffic lights will be installed.
• From Beek Street to Church Street, there is a half road closure: lane towards downtown blocked.
• All traffic heading south (Canal Street) will remain in the normal lane.
• Traffic towards the center will be split:
  Cyclists and pedestrians on the normal carriageway and/or sidewalk.
  Motorized traffic will be directed, using temporary traffic lights, over the carriageway for oncoming traffic.

What: Pruning trees

In the neighborhoods of De Gentiaan, Sonnius Park and the Outdoor Wolfswinkel area, we started the maintenance of municipal trees. 

This year the work will be done by a new contractor. To ensure that the pruning work is done in the desired manner, we organized a practical pruning day on April 22, prior to the work in Sonnius Park. Here both the municipality and the contractor were present to meet in practice and agree on the desired level of pruning.

Only trees where it is really necessary are pruned. This may be to ensure adequate space for traffic or street lighting, for example, or to ensure the long-term health of the tree. 

By targeted pruning, we ensure that the tree stock remains balanced and the green look of neighborhoods is maintained.

What: replacing and strengthening power cables in Son and Breugel
Where: from Thermaelaan in Son to Ekkersweijer in Best. Partially in the neighborhoods in Son and Breugel.

Enexis Netbeheer is going to expand the power grid in Son en Breugel. Together we are generating more and more sustainable energy with, among other things, solar panels and we are using more power for electric cooking, electric driving or a heat pump. Not only in Son & Breugel, but throughout the Netherlands. The electricity grid as constructed in the past is not equipped for this. This requires new, stronger cables in the ground. Enexis is proactively expanding the power grid to prevent problems. We call this 'network reinforcement'. By strengthening the grid, the electricity supply remains reliable and safe for residents and businesses. Enexis and the municipality are working together on this. The work will be carried out by Hurkmans and Hanab.

New power cables are being laid from Thermaelaan in Son to Ekkersweijer in Best. At the spot where the extra power cables are being laid, the forest edge will be rearranged at the same time and thus considerably improved. From April 2025, part of the power grid in the neighborhoods in Son and Breugel will also be replaced and expanded. The work consists of:  

• Improving or renovating existing power houses. This is done inside the power houses and is not visible from the outside;
• The installation of new power houses; 
• Excavation to replace and reinforce cables, in the street and under the sidewalk.

What: cleaning the gullies
Where: Son en Breugel
When: from week 13 2025 - March 24, 2025, for several weeks

Details

From week 13 the company Adriaans Riolering- en Ontstoppingsbedrijf from Mierlo will start cleaning the gullies in Son en Breugel. The work will take several weeks.

The function of a gully is to drain rainwater that falls on roads and sidewalks. Leaves, sand and litter can end up in the gullies. This dirt is removed during the cleaning round.  

Regularly, trash, bags of dog poop and cement from renovations, for example, are also found in the gullies. These things do not belong in the sewer! They can cause blockage in the pipe and/or make replacement of the gully necessary.
