On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, Mayor Suzanne Otters - Bruijnen, presented the 17th medal of honor of the municipality of Son en Breugel to Mr. J.C (Sjef) den Uijl. He receives this medal of honor as a token of appreciation, recognition and gratitude for his services to the local society.

Medal of Honor
The "medal of honor of the municipality of Son en Breugel" was established in 1980 and can be awarded as a token of appreciation, recognition and gratitude, to residents of Son en Breugel or non-residents, who have rendered themselves deserving in a special way for the municipality or the local community.

Josephus Cornelis den Uijl (76 years)
Sjef den Uijl is known to many in Son and Breugel. He is a very involved, honourable man who always does his utmost to help those in need. Mr. Den Uijl is always willing to think or participate. This is expressed for example in the many (board) tasks he has fulfilled (or still fulfills) for organizations in the municipality of Son and Breugel.

For example, he was treasurer of the Wmo Advisory Council (2006-2017), chairman of the Health working group of the Seniors' Council (2007-2012), administrator of the Den Bauw Parish House (2004-2022), secretary of the board of the Parochial Caritas Institution de Goede Herder (2015-2022), board member of the Seniors' Council (2007-2022), chairman of the Stichting Orgelkring Vollebregtorgel Breugel (2007-2022), chairman of Stichting Bijna Thuis Huis MadeLief (2010-2023), chairman of the Heritage Society of Son and Breugel (from 2011), member advisory board Social Domain (from 2017) and volunteer at Social Counsel Work (from 2009).

Furthermore, he was and is enormously involved in the topic of dementia. He was involved in the establishment of De SteenUijl, a day facility for people with dementia, in 2014. He also volunteered at this facility until 2021. Mr. Den Uijl has been a member of the Dementia Friendly Son and Breugel working group since 2011. In the period 2015-2021, he was secretary of the 2109 Foundation, a foundation dedicated to improving the quality of life of people with dementia and their environment.

All these merits are only a selection from Mr. Den Uijl's extensive volunteer oeuvre. He has unmistakably made and continues to make a valuable and meaningful contribution to the Son and Breugel society.

Sjef den Uijl received a royal honor in 2018, but even after that he has continued his unabated commitment to society. A local tribute is fitting for that.
