Demolition of building or part of building

What is it?

When demolition notification or demolition permit required?

The demolition notification is required if:

  • more than 10 m3 of waste is released during demolition;
  • asbestos is removed, demolished or dismantled (no lower quantity limit applies here).

In some cases, a demolition permit (environmental permit application) is required:

  • at monuments;
  • within a protected townscape;
  • in an area where an environmental plan requires an environmental permit for demolition (usually related to archaeology).

What to do.

File demolition notice or demolition permit

You must submit a demolition notification at least four weeks before the work begins. For an application for an environmental permit for the demolition work, you should allow for a period of 8 weeks.

You can arrange both the notification and the permit online.
For this you need DigiD (private individuals) or eHerkenning (companies).

You must include an asbestos inventory report with the notification or permit application (for buildings after 1994, this is not required).
