On Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024 Mayor Suzanne Otters- Bruijnen presented the Youth Medal of the Municipality of Son and Breugel to Saar Hakvoort.

Youth Medal

Last year, the municipality of Son en Breugel expanded the number of municipal awards (Medal of Honor and Volunteer Medal) with an award specifically intended for the target group 'young people'. With this award, the municipality can put a young person (up to 18 years of age) in the spotlight who has dedicated themselves in a distinguished way.

Saar Hakvoort

Saar Hakvoort is 9 years old and was nominated by her grandparents. Saar had to undergo emergency surgery this year and had a long recovery period. During that time, her parents were able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House.
The moment Saar came home she started a fundraiser for the lodging house. She ended up raising €1,010. With this, she made it possible to create a "House full of Night Kisses," which amounts to 17 nights of lodging for other families.

Despite the medical mill she herself was in, she selflessly devoted herself to other children and families. In part because of her, other families are able to stay with their child, brother or sister who is hospitalized for medical reasons. 

Considering Saar's age, this is a handsome achievement.
