Want to know right away what is and isn't allowed in PMD? Then go to the waste separation guide.
PMD stands for Plastic Packaging, Metal Packaging (cans) and Drinking Packs. The collection of PMD is through plastic bags. These bags can be collected free of charge at supermarket counters and at the counter of the city hall. The bags are collected weekly by waste collector Blink.
Separate properly
Residents of Son en Breugel are already very consciously separating their waste. However, we have noticed that there is sometimes a lack of clarity about what can or cannot go with PMD. This signal is also reflected in the recent survey on waste collection. When a PMD bag is too dirty, it is rejected. The bag is then left lying around, allowing waste from the bags to end up in public spaces. This creates a disturbed streetscape and pollutes the environment.
Processing PMD
For the processing of PMD, it is important that the waste separation is as pure as possible. After collection, the PMD is sorted in a sorting plant. There, all plastics are sorted according to the type of plastic and packaging. From there they go through further processing to extract new raw materials. So it does not end up in one pile with the residual waste. Finally, the pure streams each go to their own processor. In this way, each stream can be optimally recycled. For example, new packaging, crates, buckets or other products can be made from PMD.
Awareness campaign
To create more clarity about what is or is not allowed with PMD, the municipality is launching an awareness campaign about PMD: "PMD, what goes with it?".
We are launching this campaign because:
- Together we want to reduce PMD pollution,
- Residents are unsure what exactly is allowed in the PMD,
- We want to help residents properly separate their PMD.
As a result:
- Fewer and fewer bags remain after a collection round,
- There is less litter,
- Reduce collection costs.
You can follow the campaign on this page, in the Mooi Son en Breugel newspaper (and the online newspaper), through Ons Son en Breugel and our social media channels. In this way, together with the residents, we want to take steps towards a clean, circular municipality.
Good idea for separating PMD?
The PMD contest is unfortunately closed. However, you can still send in ideas. Do you have a good idea for PMD? For example to separate PMD better? Or to reduce litter from IPMD bags? Mail it to duurzaam@sonenbreugel.nl. Questions? Then contact us at duurzaam@sonenbreugel.nl as well .
