Old City Hall

National Monument

Built in 1783. Restored and expanded in 1920.
The bluestone platform was used on Sundays after high mass by the congregation to make announcements. It was also used on official occasions. In the skylight above the carved door frame, you can see a radiant sun; on the gable roof, a bell tower. Against the eaves, the stones are not simply bricked, but "braided. At the rear are two barred windows and low doors. This was the cachot with two cells.

In the right facade is a stone stating that you are 16.1 meters above sea level. Behind the large doors was the fire hydrant. Above that was the council chamber. In 1946, on the occasion of Mayor Steinweg's installation, the stained glass windows with historical pictures were installed there, made by Pieter Wiegersma from Deurne. In the left facade above the village pump, you can see a gable stone depicting the old alderman seal of Son en Breugel: two climbing lions and two sun veins.
