Music education grant

What is it?

Would your child like to learn to play a musical instrument and you cannot afford the cost? Then you may be eligible for an allowance from the municipality. Taking singing lessons is also covered by the regulation.

Requirements

All children who live in Son en Breugel and are at least 6 years old and not yet 18 years old on August 1, 2025, may qualify for a contribution to the cost of music education for the course year 2025-2026. A course year runs from August 1 to July 31. The municipality gives a subsidy of 50% of the tuition, with a maximum of € 402.00 per course year per music student. The municipality gives a subsidy for individual lessons and/or group lessons. For group lessons, the group must consist of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 people. Both courses consist of a minimum of 10 lessons and the lessons must be taken at a recognized music teacher or music school. The municipality will check for you if it is a recognized music teacher or music school. Provided the maximum subsidy amount per music pupil per course year has not yet been exceeded, you can apply for a subsidy for several (music) courses.

In certain cases pupils aged 18 to 21 can also qualify for an allowance in the costs.

You can read more about this in the Subsidy Scheme for Music Education

What to do.

You can arrange the grant application online. For this you need DigiD. If you do not yet have a DigiD, you can apply for one via DigiD.

Complete the form completely by December 1, 2025. This deadline is strictly enforced by the municipality. The municipality will decide on your grant application in order of date of receipt. You will be notified of the decision in writing. If you are awarded a grant, it will be paid out as soon as possible thereafter.

If the bill shows that music lessons began after December 1, 2025, you may submit the application after December 1, 2025, but no later than four weeks after the lessons began.
