Illegal occupancy of migrant workers detected at 2 properties in Son en Breugel
Yesterday, the Dommelstroom Intervention Team (DIT) conducted an inspection at 4 locations in Son en Breugel for the housing of labor migrants. At 2 premises the DIT found illegal occupation. At 1 of them the living conditions were unsafe. The labor migrants have since left this property and have been transferred to a hotel by the owner.
At 3 locations, the registration Basic Registration of residents was not in order and fire unsafe situations were also found. The violations are now under further investigation.
The owners of all sites visited cooperated with the audit.
Poor working conditions combined with poor housing and unsafe living conditions of migrant workers are considered labor exploitation. This is a form of human trafficking. Human trafficking involves recruiting, transporting or taking in and housing people with the use of coercion. Victims are forced to work in often poor conditions and for no or too little pay.
The inspection involved the following agencies: municipality of Son en Breugel, police Oost-Brabant and the Safety Region Brabant-Zuidoost (VRBZO).

Residents can contribute to a safe living environment. They can report suspicious situations and/or nuisance to DIT. Dommelstroom Intervention Team (DIT).
The DIT is an intervention team under the direction of the six Dommelstroom municipalities Cranendonck, Geldrop-Mierlo, Heeze-Leende, Nuenen, Son en Breugel and Valkenswaard. The DIT conducts inspections of premises and locations suspected of abuses or non-compliance with laws and regulations. The team looks at fire safety, bookkeeping, illegal occupancy, permits, registration in the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP), human trafficking, prostitution, drugs, social security fraud and/or other violations. The DIT works closely with Health and welfare agencies.
