College presents multi-year budget 2025 - 2028

The Son en Breugel Municipal Executive presented the 2025 - 2028 multi-year budget on Thursday, October 10, 2024. For 2025 there is a budget deficit of € 750,000.00. This is due to a number of incidental costs. The main cause is the government's one-time cut in the municipal fund. This means that the municipality will be cut by € 570,000.00 in 2025. In addition, in the coming years the municipality will face cost increases in youth care, WMO and maintenance of public spaces and buildings. Without these incidental items, the 2025 budget is structurally balanced.

In addition to the one-time incidental cut in 2025 in the municipal fund, the disbursement of the fund falls short of the expenditures the municipality faces. Alderman Finance, Jan Boersma: 'We are therefore looking critically at the costs of current tasks and we must be cautious about taking on new tasks. An important point of attention is that we continue to provide a strong (financial) safety net for residents who need it.

Increase in municipal taxes

'A healthy financial position is an important basis for responding to future developments and wishes of our community,' Boersma said. 'To be able to maintain a healthy financial budget for 2025 and beyond, it is therefore necessary that we take measures and thereby also make difficult choices. Unfortunately, this includes the need to also increase property taxes.'

The waste disposal fee is increasing by 2.2%. For a single-person household, the rate increases to

€ 272,88. The rate for multi-person households rises to € 342.12. The sewerage charge will increase by over €20.00 in 2025. For residents, the OZB rate will increase by 9.12%. This includes 3.3% inflation correction.

Continuing to work together for a financially healthy Son and Breugel

'Despite the financial uncertainties, I am confident that we can meet the challenges together with the city council and continue to work together with them, residents and entrepreneurs to achieve a financially healthy and livable Son and Breugel,' Boersma said.
