Commemoration ceremony Sept. 17, 2024
September 17, 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Son en Breugel by allied troops. On that day we will pay extensive attention to this anniversary from 19.00 hours at the monument of the Parachutist on the Europalaan. During the ceremony we remember all those who gave their lives for the liberation of Son en Breugel.

Program and participants
- 6:45 p.m.: Start of parade from Eekhoornlaan to the monument. Bagpiper Wilco Geboers, along with the St. Catherine Guild, will lead a parade of vehicles from Camp liberty Zon to the monument at Europalaan.
- 7 p.m.: Start of ceremony at the monument
- +/- 8 p.m.: End of ceremony
During the ceremony, Mayor Suzanne Otters-Bruijnen and representatives of the 101st Airborne Division, American Embassy, Youth Town Council, Veterans Son and Breugel and WWII Airborne Re-enactment Holland will lay a wreath or flower arrangement.
The Bloaskoaken and musicians from the 101st Airborne Division will make their musical contribution to the ceremony. The Sint Catharina Guild will perform a flag salute during the ceremony.
Parade
At 6:45 p.m., the parade with the bagpiper, Guild and historic vehicles will start from Squirrel Avenue. You are welcome to join the procession from the Eekhoornlaan to the monument. You may also choose to go directly to the monument yourself.
The historic vehicles will drive from 6:00 / 6:15 p.m. from the Orange Field via Lark Avenue, Cuckoo Avenue, Horseshoe Avenue, Poppy Avenue, Brem Avenue to Squirrel Avenue. They will arrive in the Squirrel Avenue around 6:30 p.m. and you can of course take a closer look at the vehicles in the Squirrel Avenue before the start of the parade.
Paying a floral tribute yourself?
You can also pay floral tributes yourself - if you wish. Members of scouting groups hand out individual flowers.
Parachutes and glider
In the vicinity of the monument, 2 parachutes were again put down and this year also a replica of a glider, built by residents and volunteers of care villa De Kleine Heide.
Traffic measures
- Europalaan will be closed at 6 p.m. at intersection with Rembrandt Avenue and with Boslaan and will remain closed until approximately 8:30 p.m.
- Would you like to drop off someone with mobility problems at the monument? Please indicate that to the traffic controllers at the gates. This is possible until 6:45 p.m. at the latest.
- Squirrel Avenue will be closed from 6:15 p.m. until approximately 7 p.m. For Pond Park residents, Pond Avenue will remain open.
- Care Villa De Kleine Heide is accessible when needed.
