Noise pollution Eindhoven airport
Serious noise and sleep disturbance caused by air traffic has not increased among residents living near Eindhoven Airport in 2023 since the
previous measurement in 2018. In the years before (2012- 2014-2018) an increase was visible. This positive change seems to have started after Trial Case Study
Eindhoven Airport in 2018-2019. After the Pilot Case, a (temporary) stop on the growth of the number of civilian flight movements was announced. In addition, efforts were made to reduce flights at the edges of the night. In addition, the Eindhoven Airport Consultation has been set up, which is more focused on open communication with all stakeholders than the old consultative structure.
In the study area of 10 municipalities around the airport, in 2023 an average of 14% of the residents are severely annoyed by noise from
air traffic. This share is similar to the share in 2018 (15%) and 2014 (13%), but higher than in 2012 (9%).
Serious sleep disturbance is experienced by 7% of local residents; this is similar to 2018 (8%), but higher than in 2014 (5%) and 2012 (3%).
Residents close to approach route experience more noise pollution
In the parts of the municipalities of Best, Eindhoven, Veldhoven, Eersel, Son en Breugel and Meierijstad ('zone 1') close to the approach route, 33% to 55% of the inhabitants experience severe noise nuisance and 15% to 26% severe sleep disturbance. In comparison, in the municipality of Nuenen, 2% experience severe noise nuisance and 0% experience severe sleep disturbance.
More concerns about air pollution from air traffic
22% of residents are very concerned about health complaints from air traffic pollution. Overall, 18% are seriously
concerned about health complaints from noise. In 2012, in contrast, more people were concerned about noise (18%) than air pollution (14%).
