Share car winner of sustainability award 2024

The shared car of initiator Bianca Oosterlaar is the winner of the Sustainability Award 2024 in the municipality of Son and Breugel. The jury appreciated the initiative because of the positive contribution to sustainability within the municipality, both in terms of CO2 reduction through the use of electric cars and climate adaptation. It reduces car use and encourages people to think about sustainable transportation. Alderman Jan Boersma presented the award during National Climate Week.

Jury: "At a time when consumption is often the focus, it is inspiring to see people sharing something of value together that actually works. This initiative brings neighbors closer together, which strengthens the bonds between them." Winner Bianca Oosterlaar: "Moreover, it makes the switch to electric driving more accessible to more people. As a result, several families from the current group got rid of their second car. We are very happy with winning the Sustainability Award and hope this positive attention will make more Son en Breugel residents familiar with (car) shared mobility. If even more residents join in, then the placement of a second car is in sight!"

Jury

Sustainability Councilman Steven Grevink is himself a user of the shared car and therefore was not involved in the presentation this time. Alderman Jan Boersma was the chairman and presented the award. The jury members are: Maartje Zaal, Sustainability and Nature Connection professional (daughter of Frans Zaal), Luc Ross, president of the Son en Breugel Business Association (OVSB) and Fenne Wiekema, youth city council member.

The jury considered whether the initiative met all the preconditions and then awarded points on the aspects: social contribution to society, contribution to (one of) the sustainability goals and originality. The shared car received the most points from the jury and is thus the winner of the Sustainability Award 2024.

French Hall Cup

The award winner received the Frans Zaal trophy. This trophy is named after fellow villager Frans Zaal, who passed away in 2016. He was chairman of IVN and council member for the PvdA/GroenLinks group and was a great advocate of a green and sustainable Son and Breugel.

National Climate Week

The award was presented during National Climate Week 2024. This week is an important time for sharing ideas, inspiring residents and encouraging action on climate and sustainability. It is a time to both celebrate successes and encourage new initiatives that contribute to a livable world for future generations.

What we do is Green!

The sustainability awards are part of the "What we do is green!" campaign, through which the municipality is taking steps with residents, community and commercial partners to meet shared sustainability goals.
