Café-restaurant "The Swan

Site

Son already had an inn around 1440, called "De Zwaan," a common name in this region. When a pub bore this name, it was a hint that a "lady of light morals" was present inside.

On the spot where "The Swan" (dating from the mid-18th century) stands today, there was already an inn-brewhouse in 1669.

Since 1897, when the steam streetcar from Eindhoven to Veghel passed here, De Zwaan has also served as a "streetcar stop," seeking customers for this tavern. Until the 1970s it also served as a hotel, advertised by the ANWB.

The window layouts have been partially renewed. Market 6, 7 and 8 are attached to "The Swan" and formerly housed a vegetable store and a liquor store. All properties have a gable roof with old Dutch tiles.
