What is it?
If you want to cut down, transplant or substantially prune one or more trees, you sometimes need an environmental permit from the municipality.
Advice: always consult with neighbors if they have problems with cutting down the tree.
What to do.
Via Omgevingsloket you can apply for your environmental permit online.
To do this you need DigiD (private individuals) or eHerkenning (companies). You can apply for eRecognition via eRecognition.
When do you need an environmental permit for felling
- Is the tree on your land?
- No, you may not cut down this tree.
- Yes, continue to question 2.
- Is the tree in main green structure map (see Map)?
- Yes, you need an environmental permit (via Omgevingsloket).
- No, continue to question 3.
- Is it a monumental tree (see list)?
- No, you do not need an environmental permit.
- Yes, you need an environmental permit (via Omgevingsloket).
Apply for your permit on time!
Simple applications go through the regular procedure in a maximum of eight weeks. Within those eight weeks, the competent authority can decide to extend the period once by six weeks.

What does it cost?
The cost of applying for an environmental permit to cut down a tree is €24.90.
If your plot is zoned residential/forest residential, you may need a construction permit. This costs €472.00.
