Meeting for businesses in the immediate area Temporary Municipal Reception Site

On July 15 we organized a meeting at the temporary municipal reception site, at Ekkersrijt 6040, for surrounding businesses, the council, social partners and the media. They were explained, could ask questions and could see how 200 asylum seekers will live at this location for 6 months.

The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) has a severe shortage of reception locations and a crisis situation has been going on for a long time. The Commissioner of the King, on behalf of the State, has made an urgent appeal to municipalities to provide temporary shelter for asylum seekers. The total cost of this reception will be paid by COA.

Reception of asylum seekers

The Municipal Executive decided to respond to the call and contribute, from a humanitarian point of view, to the temporary reception of asylum seekers in need of protection. The municipality will facilitate the reception location. Management of the reception location will be done by a professional, experienced organization CS&CO. There is close cooperation with COA and social partners.

All the people who are received in the TGO have been registered in Ter Apel and are in the asylum procedure. They are awaiting the course of that procedure. The composition of the group of asylum seekers, who are being accommodated, is not yet known.

Safety

Safety and livability for the asylum seekers and the environment are important concerns. Among other things, day care is organized at the location. Security is present in the building 24/7. For the safety of the asylum seekers, there will be access control at the location and arrangements will be made with the police to maintain public order.
