Gentiaan residents join forces for a greener, safer neighborhood

After previous successful actions around making their neighborhood more sustainable, the neighborhood team in De Gentiaan has a taste for it. Together with Buurkracht they organized a neighborhood meeting to see what other actions they could take. The energy is contagious: residents think along, share their ideas and roll up their sleeves.

Recently, the neighborhood team put out a questionnaire in the neighborhood. They asked neighbors what they think is important for the future of their neighborhood. The response was large and valuable. With these results, which can also be found on the website, the team organized a well-attended meeting in Braecklant on Wednesday, May 8.

An evening of engagement

During the evening it was explained what exactly "neighborhood power" is and how the neighborhood team is working towards a greener, cozier and safer Gentiaan. Marijtje, a neighborhood supervisor at Buurkracht who helps the neighborhood team with practical tips and tools: "Buurkracht is the power of neighbors that arises when they work together. Together you get things done. You can also see this through the previous actions of the neighborhood team." The results of the questionnaire were also shared. Themes such as traffic safety, greening, better contact with the municipality and neighborhood app groups stood out.

Working together

It didn't stop there. At the end of the evening, residents were able to join one of the 4 new working groups that will start work soon:

  • Traffic and mobility
  • Disconnection and rain barrels
  • Social and picking garden
  • AED in the neighborhood
