Message from Mayor Suzanne Otters-Bruijnen: thank you for the wonderful community festival!

Dear residents,

From September 13 to 18, Son en Breugel was dedicated to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation. What a party it was! Full of memorable, impressive moments and fun activities. A celebration for and by residents of Son and Breugel.

Many people from our community helped with the preparations and activities.

The result was a well-organized and varied program. Such as the spectacular Liberation Show, the passage of Operation Market Garden, Camp Liberty Son, the Liberation Festival, the story of Wolfswinkel and the entries of the 101st Airborne Division and the Liberation Taskforce.

Young and old were brought together in recent days to celebrate, remember and pass on to new generations what it means to be liberated after years of oppression and war.

Our community has shown how we value our freedom, how grateful we still are to our liberators and how important it is to preserve and cherish that freedom. Fortunately, we have been doing that for 80 years!

A very big thank you to the hundreds of volunteers, colleagues from the municipality, businesses and organizations who made the 80-year liberation celebrations in our village possible and enthusiastically worked over the past few months to make it a fantastic community celebration.

Let's keep celebrating.
Let's keep remembering.
Let's keep telling.
Let's keep learning.
Remember September.
