Waste Policy
Waste Policy
We are in the process of developing new waste policies that will enable us to take steps toward a circular society. In this, reducing the total amount of waste and improving waste separation are important but complex goals. Such an approach also costs money. With the current price increases, we are trying to keep costs as low as possible. In the new waste policy we must therefore make trade-offs between service, sustainability and cost of collection.
Residents' thoughts
We pay attention to participation here. We offer residents the opportunity to participate in the development of the new waste policy. To this end, we conducted a survey among 1,500 randomly selected households in the municipality. Other residents have also been invited via social media and the Mooi Son en Breugel newspaper to complete the same survey. On Thursday, April 20, 2023 we will include the results of the survey in the discussion with the council about the development of the new waste policy. Ultimately, the municipal council will make the choices.
Waste separation
Properly separating your waste is good for the environment. This is because it allows the materials to be recycled, creating new raw materials. Waste is thus converted into a valuable raw material. We notice that waste separation in Son en Breugel is already going very well, but it can be done even better. The quality of the waste is very important here. Waste processors still find a lot of waste in various waste streams, such as VGF and PMD, that does not belong there. We call this contamination. Too much contamination of separated waste means that it still has to be incinerated. This waste cannot then be recycled into valuable raw materials and leads to higher costs.
